अमी : भगवान विष्णु देवों ने देवताओं को कहा की वे असुरों के साथ मिलकर समुद्र मंथन का कार्य करें और समुद्र मंथन से अमी निकलेगा, जिसे ग्रहण कर तुम अमर हो जाओगे. यह बात जब देवताओं ने असुरों के राजा बलि को बताई तो वे भी समुद्र मंथन के लिए तैयार हो गए. वासुकि नाग की नेती बनाई गई और मंदराचल पर्वत की सहायता से समुद्र को पूर्ण रूप से मथा गया. अतः समुद्र मंथन से ही अमी की उत्पत्ति हुई है।

Instead, the devas were able to achieve a higher level of knowledge and strength by partaking of it, which they had lost due to Sage Durvasa's curse, as stated in the samudra manthana mythology.
