Sankatmochan Hanuman Ashtak is a Vedic prayer or stuti about Lord Hanuman, who is an Ardent devotee of Lord Rama and known as strength and service. The hymn is believed to have been composed by the medieval saint & poet Tulsidas who is also well known for his work ‘Ramcharitmanas’, a recounting of the history of Lord Rama.

The Ashtak is therefore eight stanzas which give descriptions of the various qualities of Hanuman and the role which he played in the Ramayana. Also known as the Hanuman Ashtakam, the hymn forms one of the most preferred devotional songs to be sung in praise of Lord Hanuman and usually sung during Hanuman Jayanti, a festival in the Hindu calendar dedicated to the birth celebration of Lord Hanuman. It has also become a routine prayer among devotees of Hanuman who are in need of protection from daily Hassle or are afflicted by tribulations since the name Sankatmochan is actually interpreted as “the destroyer of troubles”.

When Ahiravan took Lord Rama and his brother Lakshmana to the netherworld,

Hanuman went to the netherworld to rescue them by carrying Lord Rama on his back.
देवहिं पूजि भली विधि सों बलि, (Devahin puji bhali vidhi son bali)

About Sankatmochan Hanuman Ashtak

Sankatmochan Hanuman Ashtak is one of the most famous prayer which is recited in honour of Lord Hanuman, who is well known strength, devotion and courage of Hindu mythology.
