Guide [1965] stars Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman. Directed by Vijay Anand, The film is based on the critically acclaimed novel, The Guide, by R. K. Raju, portrayed by Dev Anand, is a freelance tour guide who earns his living by showing tourists around historic sites. The story unfolds when an aging archaeologist named Marco arrives in the city with his young wife, Rosie (played by Waheeda Rehman). Rosie, the daughter of a courtesan, is married to Marco. However, her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Raju. As Raju learns about Rosie’s background, he realizes the terrible cost she paid to achieve respectability as Marco’s wife. The film beautifully captures love, sacrifice, and the complexities of human relationships. Guide is based on R. K. Narayan’s novel of the same name and features soulful music by S. D. Burman.
