कबीर साहेब इस इस दोहे में सन्देश दिया है की जीवात्मा समस्त सांसारिक नामकरण और बंधनों से मुक्त है। कबीर साहेब कहते हैं की मैं हिन्दू नहीं हु और नाहीं मैं मुसलमान ही हूँ। दिव्य आत्मा तो पांच तत्व के पिंजरे में गा रही है / उल्लास के साथ खेल रही है। पांच तत्व यथा पृथ्वी, अग्नि, जल, वाया आदि जड़ तत्वों से शरीर का पुतला बना हुआ है और उसमें अदृश्य अविनाशी चेतन क्रीड़ा करता है, खेलती है। साहेब का भाव है की आत्मा किसी बंधन में नहीं बंध सकती है, वह तो पांच तत्व की पिंजरे में विचरण कर रही है। अतः देह को हिन्दू कहो या मुसलमान इससे कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता है। अतः हिन्दू या मुसलमान के नाम पर संघर्ष करना व्यर्थ है।

Meaning in English
In this couplet, Kabir Sahib conveys the message that the individual soul (jivatma) is free from worldly nomenclature and limitations. He states that he is neither a Hindu nor a Muslim. Instead, he identifies with the divine soul that resides within, which joyfully plays and sings within the cage of the five elements.The body is formed from the five elements – earth, fire, water, air, and more – and within it, the imperishable and unseen conscious essence engages in playful activities. Kabir Sahib's intention is to emphasize that the soul cannot be confined by any worldly bindings. It exists within the cage of the five elements, playing and rejoicing. Therefore, whether one identifies as Hindu or Muslim makes no difference. Thus, engaging in conflicts based on religious identities is futile.
