Kanakdhara Stotram is a hymn dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity. It is believed to have been composed by the great Indian philosopher and saint, Adi Shankaracharya, and is considered a powerful prayer to invoke the blessings of the goddess.
The word "Kanakdhara" literally means "a stream of gold". The hymn describes a story of a poor woman who was living in extreme poverty and was unable to provide food to a visiting saint. Moved by her plight, the saint composed and recited the Kanakdhara Stotram, which led to a miraculous shower of gold in the poor woman's house, thus alleviating her poverty.
