Highlights of DO Letter

Due to the current COVID -19 pandemic it will be necessary to observe strict health standard measures in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs). Some of them include: taking body temperatures of students every day, feeding the children on balanced diets, enforcing the use of masks, washing hands now and then, and avoiding large groups of people. Further it is necessary to have emergency contact numbers posted, to perform special cleaning and disinfecting procedures, and to respond to the students’ concerns adequately. Besides, issues ranging from proper disposal of wastes, proper wiring of buildings and provision of first aid among others, functional fans and lights and no animals within the school compound are paramount in ensuring the welfare of the students and staff of JNVs.

MEASURES RELATED TO HEALTH

Daily monitoring of health status of students.
Providing nutritious and healthy food to students.
Ensuring well-cooked and fresh food is served.
Providing masks to all staff and students.
Ensuring frequent handwashing with soap/handwash.
Maintaining social distancing in all school activities.
Displaying emergency contact numbers.
Deep cleaning and sanitization of premises periodically.

MEASURES RELATED TO PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING

Providing counseling to students by counselors/teachers.
Addressing exam stress and anxiety appropriately.
Recording psychological status of each child.
Dealing with serious mental health issues promptly.
Ensuring students' needs and grievances are addressed.
Operating the "Maan ki Baat Box" for student complaints.






Functions of Hostel Warden, Matron, and Caretaker under NVS Rules and Regulation
Hostel Warden:
Oversight: Responsible for hosting all the students living in the different hostels with commitment to their safety, security and welfare.
Rules and Regulations: Set standards on the behavior and conduct of the residents in the hostel accompanied by proper conduct policies and regulation on hostels timelines such as, visiting hours and curfew among others.
Inspections: Ensure safety patrols and check of the hostel compounds/area including fire drill exercises and evacuations.
Grievance Handling: Tackle any complains or issues that students may have with professionalism.
Staff Supervision: Supervise hostel employees such as the matrons, caretakers and any other employees the hostel may engage.

Matron:
Female Welfare: Assist and mentor the female students for their safety both in and out of the class.
Counseling: Organization counseling and student support services to all those students undergoing issues in their personal or academic life.
Health and Hygiene: Take care of the health and cleanliness of the girl students, provide all the medical needs they may require.
Discipline: Ensure order is observed among the female students especially in as far as issues concerning the hostel is concerned.

Caretaker:
Maintenance: Take responsibility of maintaining the facility, the resident’s rooms, the parlors, as well as utilities in a hostel.
Safety: K: Ensure hostel structure conducts safety check on the hostel compound often in an effort to establish possible cause of harm.
Emergency Preparedness: Support the development of emergency responses like; drill practices and evacuation.
Inventory: Ensuring that drugs and other supplies and equipment meant for the hostel are accounted for or in the right quantity.
