Curry leaves or Kadi patta are tender green leaves of a tree called curry tree or Murraya koenigii. It is a tree that is found in tropical region to the sub tropical region of Asia and it falls under the Rutaceae family. M. koenigii also known as sweet neem but it is not a member of neem family, Azadirachta indica which is belonging to Meliaceae family. Kadi Patta is a green aromatic tree which is native to the regions of India. The leaves contain a rather strong, pungent taste which gives it a place in the Indian spice rack. Leaves are used in Ayurvedic medicine as they are proven to have many health benefits attached to them. Kadi Patta in English is called as black pepper leaf or Indian bay leaf.

Curry leaves are scientifically referred to as Murraya koenigii; they are aromatic leaves in the present day Tamilnadu/India and Southeast Asia. It has a specific taste which is slightly bitter, close to citrus notes and has some spice to it, also they have a strong smell. The freshly used curry leaves are normally fried in oil or ghee in order to bring out the flavor in it; it can be used in preparation of curries, dals, rice preparations and chutneys.
